We make a significant investment providing the detailed training our volunteers. We therefore expect volunteers to make a commitment to their volunteering. Without this commitment we would not be able to plan ahead and operate the service we do which would result in us not being here to support our service users when they need us.
Therefore once fully trained, all telephone volunteers agree to a minimum commitment to LLGS. This works out at the equivalent of 6-hour telephone work a month, and must include a shift either starting at ten in the morning or ending at 11 in the evening.
We also encourage telephone volunteers to take part in back-up work as part of one of the LLGS working groups (Human resources and training; Public relations & fundraising; or Information & databases) as we would not be able to function without these groups.
However we do recognise that situations change and this may limit your ability to volunteer for LLGS, or you cannot fulfil all of these requirements. Volunteers are allowed to take breaks of up to 6 months if the situation warrant's it and we occasionally make exceptions to the commitment rules based on a particular volunteers personal situation. Please talk to the Volunteer coordinator if you have question in this area.
