Everyone at LLGS who answers the helpline is a volunteer and we all identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans.

Who can call you?

We are here to help. If you are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans or if you want to consider issues around your sexuality or you are a friend, parent or family member you are welcome to call.

What can I talk about?

We are here to listen and you can talk about anything that is on your mind. For over 35 years people have been calling us to talk about:

  • Coming out
  • Relationship issues
  • Family problems
  • Safer sex and sexual health
  • Having sex for the first time
  • Looking for an LGBT venue
  • LGBT social and support groups
  • Issues at school, college or work
  • Feelings of isolation

The list is endless and our volunteers will listen and be supportive and non-judgemental.

How Long will it take for my call to be answered?

The helpline is staffed by volunteers and we answer over 20,000 calls a year. Some calls last a few minutes while others can last almost an hour. The number of volunteers available varies during the day but there are usually more on in the evenings and at weekends. When you call us you are placed in a queue and calls are answered in the order they arrive.

Can I leave a message so you can call me back?

When you call the helpline we do not have caller display so we do not have your number. You are not able to leave a message and we do not return calls. This is to ensure confidentiality - how would we know that the person who left the message answered the phone?
