Volunteering

Being a volunteer for London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard is a rewarding and fulfilling experience and allows you to make a huge difference to the lives of lesbians, gay men and bisexuals, their families and friends. It's also an excellent way for you to develop new skills in life, meet new people and to make an active contribution to the lesbian and gay community.

  • Telephone Helpline Volunteers - make up the majority of our volunteers and they operate the helpline, listening to callers concerns, providing calm words and appropriate support, and providing relevant information when necessary.

However we have a range of roles available to you if you do not want to answer the telephone.

  • Fundraising Volunteers - who will help us raise funds by attending bucket shakes which regularly take place across London's lesbian and gay venues or by helping out or organising other fundraising events.
  • Information Researchers - who help us maintain and update our comprehensive database, ensuring that the information we have is both up to date and accurate. This vital role enables our telephone volunteers to have access to the most relevant information during the calls that they take.
  • Office Support Volunteers, who can help with some of the back office administration which can range from sending out Volunteer Recruitment Packs or sending out a fundraising mailing to collating statistics from our call log.
